Why do I keep getting in fights with people online? LOL.
So, the express summer term is nearly over. All I have left to do is an eight page essay, online portfolio, and writing project -- and then I'm all done until the end of August. I'm a little nervous, contemplating this much free time in my schedule. I usually need something to occupy my time so I don't drive myself nuts.
So maybe I'll finish watching the TV shows I've put off watching these last couple of months. I'm planning on finishing up an original story so I have something to show my writing workshop professor when we meet up again in the fall. :)
I'm pretty excited about putting together a portfolio. I've never done it before and my professor tells me that it's an excellent idea if you're considering grad school (which I am). It sounds like fun.

Guess that's me. It's been 3 months so I thought I'd show my face. Otherwise, internet society might get the idea that I was abducted by aliens or something. I wish I had more to show for my absence, like a long story or a whole mess of icons or something, but unfortunately, I have nothing to offer of that kind. My fanfiction is pretty broke right now, so I've been resting up and focusing on coursework. You guys know that I'm in university. I opted to do the express summer session, so I'm not busy per se but there's still work I have to do every day. You may know that I dropped out of the SGA Reversebang. Aww, the first time in three years I had to drop out but with the college situation, my mom's birthday being last month, and my broken fanfiction, I thought it would be best to withdraw rather than turning in a crappy fic. That makes it sound like I think my regular fics are fantastic -- not so!

I'm pretty enamored with Omar Little right now. He's so awesome. I know Omar is everyone's favorite but I think I probably watch the show wrong, because I'm lukewarm about the cops (McNulty -- yawn, Bunk -- 'kay) and I'm waaaay more interested in the dealers (Stringer Bell, Bodie, Michael Lee, Snoop and Chris) and the kids from seasons 4-5 (poor Dukie and Michael and Randy). I'm probably watching Orphan Black wrong, too, because my favorite isn't Cosima (I don't know what's wrong with me), it's Sarah. And I hate, hate, hate Sarah/Paul but so far, I'm pretty good on Sarah/Cal (and Felix/Morgue dude -- who knew Felix cared that much, huh? He was so nervous when he was getting dressed for their date).
What about McShep? I'm wearing my McKay & Sheppard shirt right now as I write this. I haven't forgotten them. I love them and their dorky love. I'll get back to them (soon, probably) but for now, I'm expanding my fictional horizons a bit.

Awesome! The Killing was picked up by Netflix for a final season. I'm so happy about that. I was epically pissed (still am) at AMC when they canceled it at the obvious beginning of a major arc resolving Linden's actions in the season three finale. I can't wait for Holder's reaction to what Linden did. I wonder how it's going to affect their relationship and partnership. I wonder if Bullet's girl will be return this season (and if she does, what it would mean for the case and Linden). I also hope for at least a hug between Linden and Holder (ughhhhh I ship them so effing hard).
Yay, Netflix! Now I like it even better. Wasn't planning on canceling my subscription (I'm in for season two of Orange Is the New Black but now it's super locked in).
Oh, and I'm loving this community,fancake, which is like a super active rec comm surrounding themes by month (I think). It's totally cool.

Good news, everyone! I invented that genetically engineered laser monster we were so excited about! My brother and sister-in-law had their second baby and I'm an aunt for the seventh time. I haven't mentioned it because it was pretty touch and go for a while, but the doctors say that Lahna is doing great. They delivered her a bit early and she had a surgery but she's home now and she's, like I said, doing great. I'm going over to my brother's house this weekend to look in at her (maybe hold her up and do the Lion King thing...but probably not... because it sounds like a bad idea). I have to say, because so many shitty things have happened this year, I felt like it just wouldn't happen but she's come through just fine. We needed some good news after my mom and my granddad. :)
On the fannish side of things, I have long ago received my marching orders from SGA Santa so I'm brainstorming and spying right now to try to find out what my recipient likes. I always like participating in the fic exchange but you've always got to worry if your giftee will like it. Anxiety! Happy, good anxiety, not bad anxiety!
Also on the fannish side of things, I was thinking maybe I should friend some people because it looks like communities aren't as busy with posts as individual journals are, so I'm open to any suggestions. I always worry it'll be intrusive if I friend somebody without talking to them first -- is that crazy? I like it when people friend me.

And thought he should probably marry Tim Bayliss because he should. (And watching The Killing and shipping Holder/Linden brought back all the ferocious feelings of shipping I had for Pembleton/Bayliss.)

SGA fanart recs and other things
Aug. 27th, 2013 12:25 amSo I volunteered to rec SGA fanart for fanart_recs during the month of September. The mod suggested somewhere between four and eight recs spread out throughout the month. So I started digging through my favorites on Deviantart and the fanart folders I have on my computer. There's just too much great stuff out there.
Everybody knows that McShep is my darling pairing, so it's a given I'll rec some McShep fanart, but I do want to recommend some of the beautiful non-McShep art I've seen and bookmarked or saved over the years. I'm also thinking about whether to rec traditional or digital art. And if I should go with well-known favorites or rec more recent or lesser known work.
I don't know, I do love recs. I got into this fandom through rec lists and I think they're invaluable, especially to new fans. :)
I'm now halfway through my second-to-last McShep Match fic but it's so good, I'm doing everything I can to prolong it. Ughhhh, feelings do not make sense. Nix that, finished excellent fic, only one left! It's both joy-inducing and sad at the same time. :)

Aug. 26th, 2013 03:28 amI have two more McShep Match fics to read. They look good so I'm looking forward to it. After that, I'm going back to the Reversebang fics I've yet to read (I'm about halfway through, I think but there are still a lot I haven't gotten to yet). After I'm done with these, I believe I will create a rec list of my favorites.
