Also, I'm sitting here on a grey, soggy Finnish spring morning, and I could still imagine the heavy heat , the way the air must ripple with the heat and the oppressive "too hot to even talk" silent atmosphere in the village.

Wow! You use so few words here, yet manage to paint a wonderfully vivid scene! I love the imagery and the use of heat as a tangible metaphor for the unspoken *want* that just simmers between John and Rodney.
